Solar Power will now account for 10% of the daytime electricity needs of Alice Springs with the launch of the federally funded solar project at the Araluen Arts Centre. The 162 kW system located at the Araluen Arts Centre was the last of five major solar projects at the central Australian community.
Alice Springs Solar City organisation now plans to push for the installation of solar panels for medium sized businesses across the town. Solar City’s Sam Latz says as well as the focus on utilising roof space of businesses for solar, the organisation also hopes to add additional panels as part of the Araluen cultural precinct. The additional panels are expected to bring the capacity to 180kW.
The project will reduce consumption during high electricity demand periods, reducing costs and saving an estimated 231 tonnes of greenhouse emissions each year.
