Home and Business Battery Scheme

Good news for NT residents! You could get a rebate with a maximum grant of up to $5,000 or 50% of the battery system cost (whichever is less) to help with the cost of adding battery storage to your solar setup through the Home and Business Battery Scheme. This rebate is available for homeowners and businesses across the Northern Territory.

Who Can Apply:

Homeowners and landlords who want to install a battery system for their property
Businesses with a current ABN, looking to cut energy costs and store solar power
Not-for-profit organisations registered to operate in NT
Homeowners and businesses looking to install solar PV panels concurrently with battery systems, as per funding regulations

Key Things to Know:

Rebate Amount: You can get up to $5,000 or $400 per kilowatt hour of useable battery system capacity – whichever is the smaller amount.
Battery-Ready Solar: The rebate can be used for adding a new battery to an existing solar system or installing a new battery-ready solar system with a specified useable battery system capacity.
One Rebate Per Property: You can only apply for one rebate per property.
Installation by Licensed Installers: All installations must be completed by an NT-licensed electrician, and the battery system has to meet relevant Australian standards.
Using an Approved Supplier: You must use a supplier approved under the Home and Business Battery Scheme (i.e. an approved Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) installer)

Approved Battery Systems:

To qualify for the Home and Business Battery Scheme, your chosen battery system must be on the list of approved battery systems. These systems are assessed for their capability to function as part of a virtual power plant, ensuring they meet high standards of quality and safety. The list of approved battery systems is regularly updated, so it’s important to check the scheme’s website to confirm that your selected battery system is eligible. This ensures that you are investing in a reliable and efficient battery system that meets the scheme’s criteria.

How It Works:

Get Quotes: Get quotes from approved installers for the system you want to install.
Apply for the Rebate: Apply online through the Northern Territory Government’s battery rebate program to get pre-approval with your preferred quote and receive a unique voucher.
Install the System: Once your application has been approved, your licensed installer will set up your battery storage system and, if applicable, your rooftop solar system.
Pay installer using voucher: Use the voucher amount you have been given as part payment. The voucher must be given to the installer — the NT Government will then pay the voucher amount direct to the installer.
