It comes in the form of a generous upfront discount on your solar system.

These reduce every year on January 1st till the scheme is eventually phased out in 2031.

#2 State Rebates Have Changed A LOT

2022 was probably one of the biggest shake ups for State Government solar rebates that we’ve seen in a while. A number of schemes were dropped, tweaked, replaced or added. It’s been a big job keeping across it all!

You can download our 2023 Buyer’s Guide to Solar for the full wrap up of which State Government rebates are available in each state / territory in 2023.

If you live in the ACT, SA or NSW you’re definitely going to want to have a look. These states have seen the biggest changes to the kinds of State Government solar rebates they can access.

Changes to State Government solar rebates in 2023 might affect how much you pay for your system. Make sure you’re across every scheme available.

#3 Repayment Periods Could Be About to Drop

A solar system installed in 2023 could pay itself of sooner than expected.

This isn’t because solar components are getting cheaper in 2023 and it’s not because feed-in tariffs are becoming more generous.

It’s down to the rapid rise in what we’re all paying for electricity from energy retailers in Australia.

2022 was a horror show for cost of living increases and electricity prices were one of the worst offenders, shooting up over 20% in the second half of the year alone.

2023 is looking even shakier, with experts in the industry predicting rises in the ballpark of 35%.

The higher the price of electricity climbs, the more value you get out of each kWh your solar system produces.

You’re solar savings increase inline with the cost of buying electricity off the grid. As electricity prices get worse, the time it takes to make back the upfront cost of purchasing your system lessens.

Depending on the system you purchase and how bad the energy price hikes get, you could see your repayment period drop by months, if not years if you install in 2023.

If you need some relief on your energy bills now then it’s worth checking out our partner Energy Market.

#4 Installers Are Getting Busier

Solar installers have never been more in demand.

The energy crisis we mentioned above has created a rush on solar all across Australia as families scramble to do something to combat the rising cost of energy.

Increased wait times on getting a system are a real possibility in the coming months.

Solar uptake on the rise: Over a third of all houses in Australia have rooftop solar with enquiries up 750% for some installers.

If you’re thinking about solar in the near future it’s worth getting quotes now to make sure spots are still available for when you need it.

#5 Demand for Electric Vehicles on the Up

It looks like 2023 might finally be the year that Australians get some reach choice around purchasing an electric vehicle.

Tesla’s dominance is about to be challenged with the likes of Toyota, Subaru, Mercedes and BMW all slated to launch their own products in the Aussie market very soon.

Expect to see how Australians configure their solar systems and the kinds of products installers offer (think home EV charging) to evolve to reflect this new choice!

Ford’s all electric F 150 is slated for a 2023 Australian launch.

A Big Year for Solar

2023 is looking like a real turning point for solar and renewables in Australia.

Expect to see more and more choice become available from installers as demand grows!
